Technical Issues
I would like to mention that most of the text below was not originally written by me. The third question was shamelessly copied, with several rephrases. This is due to the fact that my knowledge in this sort of issues is not extremely wide. Neither me nor the TKEP officials, by the way, provide technical support; the nice people from Macromedia support do that instead.
Game won't work - Browser crashes - Had more kills
Why wouldn't the game work?
Great question! The game is a Flash application, and
therefore, it should be useful to have Macromedia Flash Player 6 installed.
Furthermore, the game needs access to port 31666. Make sure that your security
settings allow the Flash application to communicate with the server; some
firewalls might block that.
My
browser crashes when I ignore, unignore or save my settings. What should I do?
I have encountered this problem myself, with the ignore/unignore. Known to take
place only with MS Windows 98 or ME and old Flash versions, this problem makes one of the most common problems in TKEP, and it was discussed in one of the threads of homokaasu.org's
forums. Basically, the method to prevent the crashes is finding a file
named "TKEPsettings.sol" and deleting it. You might want to save a backup copy
of it, as it contains all of your settings, including ignores, mnemonics,
quality et cetera. It is important to note that this bug has been fixed by Macromedia, so that thy browser shouldn't crash should you have the last version of Macromedia Flash. You can download that from here.
Last
time I left, I had more kills!
The kills of each player are cached at the web server, rather than saved
to the database one. They are saved to the database whenever the "Go Kill'em"
page is reloaded or the user logs out (a logout occurs automatically after
fifteen minutes of inactivity). Therefore, if you leave without making sure your
kills were saved (by logging out or reloading the Go Kill'em page), and return
within fifteen minutes, a second cache will be created, which is, generally, a
bad thing, which causes mess.
To avoid this problem, reload the Go Kill'em page or log out before leaving.
